Beam Sensor

Crafsman garage door opener stopped working by remote or wall switch. Red light in wall switch is out also.?
This is a craftsman 1/2 horse power chain drive opener probably 15 years old (pre-safety beam sensors). Short of stripping a gear that I was able to replace it has been reliable since I bought the house 5 years ago. One morning the little red light in the wall button was out and the door wouldn’t work at all. Any troubleshooting suggestions short of buying a new one?
It sounds like a power issue. That would be the 1st thing to check. Either the outlet it’s plugged into, or the circuit if it’s hardwired. Also, some units have a thermal overload switch which shuts off the power if it gets too hot. It should reset automatically when it cools off but if somethings wrong with it … 15 years is a good long life for a garage opener; especially a chain drive! Hope mine lasts that long. good luck
